Racers Gear Up for Exciting Season Opener in Southern Indiana – Join the Murray State Athletics Action!

Murray State women’s basketball kicks off the 2025-26 season this Friday at 5 p.m. in Evansville, Indiana, against Southern Indiana. Last season, USI edged out the Racers 82-75 in a thrilling game. Historically, Murray State holds a 5-2 lead in their matchup history and has won two of the last three games against the Screaming Eagles.

The Racers built momentum after a record-breaking season in 2024-25, finishing with 25 wins, and clinching both the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles. This success led to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2008.

In a recent exhibition, Murray State dominated Trevecca, winning 102-61. Junior guards Haven Ford and Halli Poock led the team with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Newcomers Sharnecce Currie-Jelks and Keslyn Secrist also made strong contributions with 17 and 14 points.

### Key Highlights for Game Day:
– Murray State returns standout players Halli Poock and Haven Ford, who combined for nearly 32 points per game last season. Ford set a single-season assist record with 170 assists.
– Six players from last year’s championship team are back, aiming to build on their NCAA tournament experience.
– Head Coach Rechelle Turner is back for her ninth season and holds the title of the winningest coach in the program’s history.
– Last season, the Racers ranked second in the nation for scoring, averaging 86.8 points per game and excelled in several statistical categories, including three-pointers and free throw percentage.

Both Ford and Poock have been named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List, signaling their impact on the court. Coach Turner is also recognized in the preseason watch list for the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year.
