
Rahul Gandhi Veer Savarkar remarks: Shiv Sena (Shinde) MP Shrikant Shinde on Saturday (14 December 2024) has targeted Rahul Gandhi, citing a letter from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In this letter, Indira Gandhi had allegedly praised Hindutva thinker Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
The Shiv Sena MP cited a letter from 1980, wherein he mentioned Indira Gandhi had known as Savarkar the “prodigal son of India”. Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, mentioned, “Was your grandmother also against the Constitution? You have a habit of speaking against her. We are proud to praise Savarkar and will continue to do so.”
Responding to Shrikant Shinde’s remark, Rahul mentioned, “I as soon as talked to Indira Gandhi ji about this. She advised me that Savarkar ji compromised with the British, wrote a letter and apologized to the British. He mentioned That Gandhiji went to jail and Nehruji went to jail, however Savarkar apologized, this was his stand.
Kiren Rijiju posted letter on social media
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju took to Twitter and posted the letter written by the former PM to Savarkar. Kiren Rijiju mentioned, “This document is for Rahul Gandhi ji because he had given a wrong statement about Veer Savarkar in the Lok Sabha.” Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi cited Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s remark that “there is nothing Indian in our Constitution” to criticize the BJP in Parliament. He additionally alleged that Savarkar used to advocate changing the Constitution with Manusmriti.
