The goal for all 33 drivers is to post a qualifying time today. If they can’t, INDYCAR will likely void all times and restart the process on Sunday. Typically, each driver’s qualifying run includes four laps, so completing all runs could take around three hours if everything goes smoothly.
To complicate matters, it usually takes about two hours to dry the track. Officials prefer not to run qualifying beyond 8 p.m., so rain would need to stop by around 2 p.m. to have a chance at finishing today.
INDYCAR officials are cautious about starting qualifying if rain is still in the forecast. They want to avoid a situation where some drivers make runs while others can’t, especially since weather conditions could change drastically after a storm.
If Saturday is washed out, the plan for qualifying on Sunday is still unclear. Traditionally, Sunday is reserved for determining the starting order for the top 15 cars from Saturday’s session. However, INDYCAR might have to adjust the plan to accommodate all 33 drivers.

Interestingly, Sunday’s race is expected to be hot, with temperatures rising to the 80s—about 20 degrees warmer than Saturday. Alex Palou, the defending race winner and four-time INDYCAR champion, emphasized the importance of focusing on driving. He trusts his team to make the necessary adjustments based on changing conditions.
