Despite a gloomy and wet Memorial Day weekend, the Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival is back in Monmouth Park. About 30 food trucks are offering delicious treats, undeterred by the weather.
Mike Lazur, from the festival, noted that although the rain kept many away, some dedicated food lovers still came out. “The crowd is smaller today, but those who showed up are making the best of it,” he said.
This event is an annual highlight, blending horse racing with a variety of food options. However, the steady rain has definitely affected attendance, leading to shorter lines and quicker service for those who did venture out.
Patrick and Jason, two friends from Bayville, shrugged off the rain. “We wanted to try the food trucks, so we came out anyway,” Patrick said. Jason added, “It’s unfortunate that the weather’s keeping others home, but we’re enjoying ourselves.”
For many vendors, like Giovanna Russo from Bella Ciao Pizza, the weather was disappointing but not discouraging. “I was really looking forward to this event. We’re all set up and ready to serve,” she said, hoping for better weather on the final day.
It’s interesting to note that food festivals like this one have gained popularity over the years. A recent survey found that food truck events attract more than 60% of festival-goers looking for unique culinary experiences. This shows a growing trend in food tourism, where locals and travelers alike seek out these diverse dining options.
Forecasts indicate that skies might clear, promising a more vibrant turnout for the closing day of the festival. Gates reopen at 11 a.m. on Monday, offering another chance for food lovers to make the most of this tasty tradition.
