Kota, Rajasthan: The new Vande Bharat sleeper train has made headlines by hitting a high-speed milestone of 180 kilometers per hour (KPH) during trials. This was achieved under various conditions, with both loaded and empty configurations tested in the Kota division of West Central Railways.
The latest tests took place from November 2 to 17, following earlier trials in late 2024 and early 2025. The train successfully carried a load of 908 tons during one test and ran empty in another, allowing for a comprehensive comparison of its performance.
Senior railway officials stated that this achievement supports India’s “Mission Raftar” and the “Make in India” initiative. The train is developed using local technology and features advanced suspension and aerodynamic design for improved stability and comfort.
The trials covered the Rohalkhurd-Indragarh-Kota section, totaling around 100 kilometers. They included critical tests like the oscillation test and long confirmatory run (LCR), evaluating the train’s safety, braking efficiency, and ride quality at high speeds.
Experts from the Integral Coach Factory, Medha Servo Drives, and Faiveley India were present to oversee the trials. Their involvement ensures the technology meets high standards of safety and performance.
A notable aspect of this train is its design, which aims to make Indian Railways more self-reliant and competitive globally. With the Vande Bharat sleeper, passengers can expect a smoother ride thanks to its state-of-the-art features.
