Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Indian community in Berlin, highlighting their role as a vital link between India and Germany. This gathering marked the beginning of his three-day visit to the country.
Singh praised the approximately 300,000 Indians in Germany, calling them the “strongest bridge” between the two nations. He pointed out that as India and Germany celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the contributions of overseas Indians are crucial for India’s growth as a global power. Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for shifting India’s international standing, noting that India’s opinions are now often sought after globally.
He encouraged the diaspora to use their influence to promote India’s interests and strengthen economic ties between the two countries. Singh reassured the Indian community that their security and well-being are priorities for the government, emphasizing ongoing support for citizens living abroad.
The Minister also looked ahead to India’s future, highlighting significant advancements in technology, infrastructure, and innovation. Programs like Aatmanirbhar Bharat aim to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports.
He underscored the need for quality in all aspects, saying that this should be reflected in India’s products and services. Singh described the event as a “special moment,” illustrating the growing partnership between New Delhi and Berlin.
In closing, he invited the diaspora to stay engaged in shaping a developed India, encouraging them to cherish their roots while excelling in their professions abroad.
According to recent data, the Indian diaspora worldwide is estimated at over 32 million, making it one of the largest in the world. Their contributions to both host countries and India are increasingly recognized as vital for development.
