Berlin: A Strengthened Connection with India

During a recent visit to Berlin, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh engaged with the Indian community, highlighting their pivotal role in connecting India and Germany. He applauded their contributions across various fields, such as business, technology, healthcare, and the arts.

Singh spoke about India’s impressive economic growth and technological strides, emphasizing innovations in infrastructure, startups, and space. He shared the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aimed at enhancing domestic production and reducing reliance on imports.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Singh noted, India’s global influence has notably increased. He remarked, “In the past, India’s voice went unheard; now, it captures global attention.” He encouraged the Indian diaspora to advocate for India and strengthen economic bonds with Germany, especially with the upcoming celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.

During his address to the German Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Security, Singh discussed the strategic partnership between India and Germany, as well as a new defence agreement with the European Union. This partnership highlights collaborative efforts in defense and security.

In a heartfelt moment, Singh paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore at Humboldt University, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage while in Germany. His visit included high-level discussions about enhancing defence cooperation, exploring fields like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

According to the Ministry of Defence, Singh’s schedule includes meetings with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and other senior leaders. They plan to sign a Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap and discuss opportunities for co-development under India’s Make-in-India initiative.

The collaboration is crucial given today’s geopolitical landscape. A report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute indicates a 20% increase in military cooperation between nations over the past five years. This shift underscores the need for strong partnerships in technology and defense.

Overall, Singh’s visit reinforces the commitment to tighter ties and mutual respect between India and Germany, with the Indian diaspora acting as a vital bridge for growth and collaboration.
