Rams and Patriots Eye A.J. Brown Trade with Eagles—What’s Next? Insights from Sources

The Philadelphia Eagles have had some serious talks about trading wide receiver A.J. Brown. Both the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots showed interest, but as of now, the Eagles aren’t planning to make a move, according to multiple sources from the league.

Recently, there was speculation around Brown’s frustrations during the Eagles’ 2025 season. While the Rams and Patriots remain keen, no trade is expected soon. If anything occurs, it might heat up around June 1.

Interestingly, the Rams recently traded one of their two 2026 first-round picks to get All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. Meanwhile, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is dealing with several salary-cap decisions, including tight end Dallas Goedert’s future. The deadline on Goedert’s contract was recently pushed, and what happens with Brown could influence other roster choices.

Roseman’s strategy has been clear: he won’t part with top players without a good reason. His asking price for Brown has been steep—reportedly a first- and second-round pick. This is similar to what the Green Bay Packers received when they traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. At that time, Adams was 29, while Brown, now 28, is nearing the end of his eighth NFL season.

A league source mentioned that the Eagles might be trying to spark competition among teams for Brown, but the receiver market has shifted elsewhere. The Buffalo Bills traded for DJ Moore, and New England signed Romeo Doubs as the free agency kicked off. The Rams, however, are still monitoring Brown’s situation.

The Patriots had also discussed trading for Brown before the NFL’s legal tampering period began. Eliot Wolf, their executive vice president of player personnel, mentioned this week that there isn’t a definitive deadline for making a deal. “I think the only real deadlines you have are salary-cap related,” Wolf said. “But I wouldn’t say there’s a deadline on trying to improve the team.”

The dynamics of player trades are fascinating. In recent years, the trading landscape has changed significantly in the NFL. High-profile trades, like Adams, have set precedents that teams consider. The Eagles’ handling of Brown may reflect their desire to maximize value and ensure they remain competitive.
