Ramy Youssef, Josh Rabinowitz, and Andy Campagna have stepped down as executive producers of Will Ferrell’s upcoming golf comedy series on Netflix. This shift was due to creative differences.
Youssef and Rabinowitz were initially set to be co-showrunners and worked with Ferrell, who portrays a fictional golf legend. Campagna was also involved through Youssef’s production company, Cairo Cowboy. Interestingly, Cairo Cowboy is still collaborating with Netflix on another project with Steve Way, a close friend of Youssef.
In a fun twist, Molly Shannon has joined the cast as a character named Stacy. Shannon and Ferrell share a history as former “Saturday Night Live” cast members from 1995 to 2001. Recently, she appeared in the fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building” and in “The Other Two” on HBO Max. Her upcoming projects include the teen road trip comedy “Driver’s Ed” and Netflix’s adaptation of Emily Henry’s novel “People We Meet on Vacation.”
The golf series will also have Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor as executive producers. Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and others are also involved in the project.
As the project moves forward, it’s a reminder of how quickly creative dynamics can change in the entertainment industry. A recent survey from the Producers Guild of America found that around 70% of producers have unproductive creative clashes, underscoring the importance of strong collaboration in Hollywood.
