Ranveer Allahbadia’s Bold Stance: Why a ‘Viksit Bharat’ Must Embrace ‘Sanskarit Bharat’

Bharat aims to become a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ or Developed India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. This vision isn’t just about economic growth; it’s about preserving our rich cultural heritage and moral values. True development involves both prosperity and strong ethical foundations.

The National Education Policy 2020 reflects this goal, emphasizing the importance of character building in our education system. It states that education should instill ethics and compassion in learners. Yet, we see a troubling trend among our youth, drifting away from these values.

A recent incident on the comedy show “India’s Got Latent” highlighted this issue. Social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment about parents’ intimate lives, sparking mass outrage. His exchange with host Samay Raina crossed boundaries of decency, prompting widespread condemnation, including from Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and Union Minister for Women and Child Development.

This incident underlines a broader concern: the normalization of crude humor in online content. Such remarks can erode respect for family and societal values. The Supreme Court has called Allahbadia’s comments ‘disgusting,’ reaffirming that freedom of expression must align with decency.

Meanwhile, social media platforms are ripe with inappropriate content. Many young people are influenced by this vulgarity, often imitating styles from Western cultures that disregard our traditional values.

What’s alarming is that while public condemnation of such remarks is widespread, some voices downplay their severity, minimizing the issue under the guise of “dark humor.” This makes it crucial for society to reclaim its standards without compromising on freedoms.

To tackle this cultural crisis, stricter monitoring and regulations on online content are essential. The Indian Constitution allows for reasonable restrictions on free speech to maintain public decency. The Supreme Court has emphasized that while freedom of speech is vital, it shouldn’t promote hate or obscenity.

Digital content creators have a responsibility to ensure their material respects societal norms. As they shape young minds, their influence must be guided by ethics. Continuing to overlook this could lead to a significant shift in societal values.

Maintaining a balance between freedom of expression and moral sensibility is vital for a Viksit Bharat. Upholding family dignity and social stability is not just important for our cultural foundation, but it’s also essential for realizing our collective vision as a developed nation.
