Diego Pavia, originally slated to join the Ravens for a tryout this weekend, has just landed a deal as an undrafted free agent. This announcement came from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter.
It’s a three-year contract, and Pavia joins other quarterbacks like Jalon Daniels (Buccaneers) and Haynes King (Panthers) who found their teams after the draft. Pavia completed a successful college career, finishing second in the 2025 Heisman voting while playing for Vanderbilt and New Mexico State. His time at Vanderbilt was particularly impressive; he led the SEC with a 70.6% completion rate, threw 29 touchdown passes, and averaged 9.4 yards per attempt.
However, Pavia’s height might be a concern. He was listed at 6 feet in college but measured just 5-foot-9 at the Combine. Despite this, he showcased his skills effectively. In his first year at Vanderbilt, he posted a 20-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio while rushing for 801 yards and eight touchdowns. Before transferring, he ran for 923 yards at New Mexico State in 2023 and followed that with 862 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns as a Heisman runner-up in 2025.
Pavia’s dual-threat ability could mesh well with the Ravens’ offensive style, especially under quarterback Lamar Jackson, known for his dynamic play. The Ravens recently brought back Tyler Huntley as a backup to Jackson, who has been a key player during Jackson’s career. This sets the stage for Pavia, who now has a chance to compete for a spot on the team’s 53-man roster or perhaps the practice squad come summer.
The transition from college to the NFL can be tough. Many quarterbacks struggle to adapt to the speed and complexity of professional defenses. According to a recent survey by the NFL Players Association, about 57% of rookies said they found the jump in competition challenging.
