OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Lamar Jackson is still out due to a right hamstring injury as the Baltimore Ravens come back from their bye week. He missed practice on Monday, creating doubts about whether he’ll play against the Chicago Bears this Sunday.
Last week, Ravens coach John Harbaugh sounded hopeful about Jackson’s return, but his absence at practice raises concerns. “I think all the guys are working really hard to get back,” Harbaugh said, though he didn’t say much about Jackson individually.
This season has been tough for the Ravens, who are 1-5, matching the worst start in their 30-year history. The team has struggled without Jackson, scoring only 13 points in the two games he missed. Backup Cooper Rush has faced challenges filling in for him.
Injuries have plagued the team. Jackson is the last of three players who left the game against Kansas City with hamstring issues. Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and middle linebacker Roquan Smith have both returned, putting more pressure on Jackson to heal.
Zay Flowers, a wide receiver and friend of Jackson, said he talks to him daily but doesn’t have clarity on his return. “If he is playing, we’ll be ready to go,” Flowers stated.
Jackson’s performance has been vital for the Ravens. Since 2018, the team has a winning record of 74-32 with him as quarterback, averaging 28.1 points per game. However, when he’s absent, they drop significantly to 4-12, averaging just 15.4 points. This stark contrast highlights his impact on the team’s success.
Currently, the Ravens have a 28.6% chance of making the playoffs, according to ESPN Analytics. As cornerback Marlon Humphrey noted, “Everybody in our room still believes we can do it.” The pressure is mounting as they look for a midseason turnaround, especially if Jackson can return to the field soon.
As the NFL season unfolds, the Ravens and their fans will be eagerly watching for Jackson’s recovery. His presence could change everything for a team fighting to turn their season around.
