Light rain fell on Enid, Oklahoma, just days after a tornado hit the area. But the local Salvation Army is on the ground, working hard to help the community recover.
LaKresha Ferguson, an Emergency Disaster Coordinator for the Salvation Army, shared how they are supporting affected residents. “We’re providing hydration, meals, and emotional care,” she said. Their main hub for assistance is set up at the Community Church of the Plains, where they offer food, water, and medical supplies.
Community support has been strong. LaKresha noted, “People are always ready to help each other. It’s heartwarming to see everyone coming together.” The church also serves as a spot to collect lost items, like a stuffed animal or an old photo, waiting for families to reclaim them.
In addition to immediate support, financial assistance is available. Caitlyn Root mentioned that $250 checks are being distributed to storm victims. “We’re reaching out to families we have details for but haven’t connected with yet,” she explained. The team is also hoping to secure $1,000 checks and is applying for grants to increase aid.
