Rebecca Romijn Hints at Possible Return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Due to Ongoing Script Development

Rebecca Romijn recently shared her thoughts on returning as Mystique in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. At San Diego Comic-Con, she expressed uncertainty about whether her filming is complete. The script is still being finalized, making it hard to say for sure.

She noted, “The script hasn’t been finished. It’s been really fun, but we’re all in the dark.” This secretive approach is typical for Marvel. Romijn kept tight-lipped about whether she’d seen the full script, joking, “I cannot confirm nor deny that I have read the entire script.” She did share that working with some of her original X-Men co-stars mixed with a new cast felt surreal.

Romijn reflected on her long history with the character. “I know her very well,” she said about Mystique, whom she last portrayed in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. Her first experience with the role left her feeling like an imposter at times. “I thought maybe I was just a model available to play Mystique. But this time, I felt I truly owned the character. It was a very different experience.”

The nostalgia is palpable, especially since the new Avengers: Doomsday will reunite actors from the original X-Men films. Alongside Romijn, Patrick Stewart returns as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer also reprise their roles as Nightcrawler and Beast, respectively.

Interestingly, the resurgence of characters from the X-Men franchise highlights a broader trend in Hollywood. Many studios are reintroducing classic characters, tapping into audience nostalgia. A recent survey indicated that over 60% of fans appreciate seeing beloved characters return, making these films a hot topic on social media. Fans often share their excitement, with hashtags like #MystiqueIsBack trending.

As movies continue to blend old favorites with new narratives, the connections that audiences feel to these characters will likely grow, adding a layer of depth to future films.
