Throughout the game, the two teams were evenly matched, swapping leads and tying on 21 occasions. However, UNLV (5-2) outperformed Montana State (4-4) with a .265 hitting percentage compared to .206, along with more kills, aces, and digs.

Despite the loss, Montana State head coach Matt Houk noted that his team showed potential. “Our good has been really good, but we need to maintain that level over the match,” he explained. “We’ve been struggling with this consistency.”

The first and third sets were tightly contested, with UNLV breaking away with key runs. In the first set, an 8-2 spurt helped them finish strong. The second set saw MSU’s Camryn Greenwald tie the game at 23, but an ace from Jaida Harris sealed the win for UNLV.

Houk reflected on his team’s performance, acknowledging moments of control that slipped away. “We’re giving up streaks of points that put us in a hole,” he said. “We need to play up to our standards throughout the entire match.”

On the stats side, Montana State’s Karli Heidemann led her team with 12 kills, while Elli Tufto and Greenwald contributed with eight and six, respectively. Freshman setter Maggie Rhew recorded 27 assists, and libero Lauren Lindseth, along with Nicolette Noble, stood strong in defense. Junior Jolie Spelts led at the net with five blocks and added five kills.

As the Bobcats prepare to face UC Irvine on Saturday, they aim to sharpen their game and overcome the challenges seen in their match against UNLV.
