The Boston Red Sox have signed reliever Tayron Guerrero to a minor league deal, which includes an invite to MLB spring training. This news was first shared by Andrew Parker of Sox Prospects.
Guerrero, standing at an impressive 6’8”, is returning to the States after spending the 2025 season in Japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines. This is his second time with the team, but last season didn’t go as well as his first. In 2022, he had a stronger performance compared to his most recent stint, which saw his ERA rise to 6.41 over 19 2/3 innings. As a result, he spent much of the year in the minors.
At 35, Guerrero hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2019. Over his career, he’s logged 106 innings in the MLB with a 5.77 ERA. In Triple-A, he has a 7.00 earned run average across 117 innings. His fastball is noteworthy, averaging a blazing 99 MPH, which has kept teams interested in him as a potential depth reliever. However, he has struggled with command, making consistency a challenge.
The Red Sox will assess Guerrero during spring training. While he may not secure a spot on Opening Day, impressing in exhibition games or with Triple-A Worcester could put him back on the team’s radar.
