Redbirds Soar in Second Round at Border Olympics: Illinois State University Athletics Takes Flight!

LAREDO, Texas – Illinois State made a great comeback in the second round, improving their score by eight strokes. They are now just 10 strokes away from breaking into the top 10 at the 2025 Border Olympics.

Leading the tournament is Louisiana with a score of 572 after 36 holes. Houston follows closely at 575, while New Mexico State is at 576. Michigan and Miami are tied for fourth, each scoring 579. Right ahead of Illinois State, who sits at 600, are Rice (582), Louisiana Monroe (587), Sam Houston (588), Lipscomb (589), Troy (591), UTRGV (593), Lamar (595), Wright State (599), and Augusta (599). Houston Christian is trailing behind at 613.

Alex McCulla and TJ Barger are tied for 40th after the second round, both finishing with a total of 148. McCulla scored 77 in the first round and improved to 71 in the second, while Barger shot consistent rounds of 74.

Will Troy ended up tied for 66th with a combined score of 154, having rounds of 78 and 76. Jack Paeglow and Pietro Pontiggia are tied for 71st, each scoring 156 with rounds of 75 and 81. Paeglow started strong with a 75, while Pontiggia finished his day with the same score.

For the final round, the Redbirds will tee off alongside Wright State, Augusta, and Houston Christian, starting on the 14th hole.
