Great news for Regent University! The NCAA has approved its application for provisional membership in Division III, starting September 1, 2025. This is a big step for the university’s athletic program.
Michael W. Allen, the Director of Athletics, expressed his excitement. “This is a historic moment for Regent. We share the NCAA’s values of teamwork, discipline, and leadership,” he said. He emphasized the university’s commitment to developing student-athletes who pursue excellence, in line with the vision of the late founder, Dr. Pat Robertson.
Currently, Regent is completing an exploratory year. Once the three-year provisional stage begins, the university will need to follow all NCAA rules and meet specific standards for new members.
The NCAA’s timeline for Regent’s membership looks like this:
- 2024-25: Exploratory year in NCAA Division III
- 2025-26: Year 1 of Provisional Membership
- 2026-27: Year 2 of Provisional Membership
- 2027-28: Year 3 of Provisional Membership
- 2028-29: Full membership in NCAA Division III
During the provisional phase, Regent won’t compete in NCAA postseason tournaments. However, it will continue its participation in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and will join the Coast-To-Coast Conference starting next season.
