Remarkable Family Achievement: Mother and Her Three Daughters Celebrate Graduation Together from Georgia State University!

Four Generations of Achievement at Georgia State University

Graduation season is always a special time for families. This year, at Georgia State University, the Lee family stands out. Four members from the same family are graduating together on May 7.

Quila Lee, 53, is walking across the stage with her three daughters: Rakiya, 31, and 22-year-old twins, Kalaya and Kamiya. Each has earned their own degree. Quila, a seventh-grade teacher at G.P. Babb Middle School in Clayton County, is receiving her Master of Arts in Teaching. Rakiya is graduating with her Master’s in Public Administration. Kalaya and Kamiya will both earn degrees in Biology.

This moment is particularly meaningful for Quila. In 2003, she was pursuing her Master’s in Public Administration when she discovered she was expecting twins. The pregnancy almost made her give up her studies, but with help from her community, she persevered. When she graduated from Kentucky State University, her newborn twins were present, along with Rakiya, who was just nine years old at the time.

Reflecting on this journey, Quila said, “Twenty-two years ago, you never could have told me these girls and I would be graduating together. As any mother would be, I am so proud of them.”

After graduation, Rakiya is considering law school while Kalaya aspires to become a veterinarian. Kamiya plans to continue her education with a Master’s degree in Public Health. As for Quila? She isn’t finished learning yet. A doctoral program might be in her future.

This unique celebration of achievement shows the power of determination and support within families. As they take this important step together, their story serves as an inspiration to others striving for education and success.
