LAKE BUTLER, Fla. – Jay North, the beloved child star from the classic TV show "Dennis the Menace," has passed away at the age of 73. His friend Laurie Jacobson confirmed that he died at his home in Florida after a brave battle with colon cancer.

North became a household name when he was just six years old, playing the mischievous Dennis in the CBS sitcom inspired by Hank Ketcham’s comic strip. The show began airing in 1959 and quickly became a Sunday night favorite. With his signature striped shirt and overalls, Dennis brought laughter and light-hearted trouble to his neighborhood, often exasperating his next-door neighbor, George Wilson, played by Joseph Kearns.
The show ran for four seasons before ending in 1963, but "Dennis the Menace" found a new audience in syndication, bringing joy to generations. North later made appearances in various television shows, including "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "The Lucy Show," and even the animated series "The Simpsons." His film credits include "Maya" and "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star."
Fans remember North not just for his talent but for his warm personality. Jacobson shared a touching tribute, stating, “He had a heart as big as a mountain and loved his friends deeply.” His third wife, Cindy, and three stepdaughters survive him.
In recent years, nostalgia for classic TV shows like "Dennis the Menace" has surged, with many people revisiting childhood favorites through streaming platforms. This reflects a broader trend of reconnecting with simpler times, especially as younger generations discover these beloved series. As we remember Jay North, his happy spirit lives on through the laughter he brought to so many.
