Remembering Jim Scott: A Tribute to the Beloved Radio Personality at Mount St. Joseph University One Year Later

CINCINNATI – Former radio host Jim Scott was remembered in a heartfelt ceremony at Mount Saint Joseph University on Saturday, marking a year since his passing. The event, named "A Celebration of Jim Scott: Music & Memories," featured live music, personal stories, and a display of memorabilia celebrating his impact on Cincinnati’s broadcasting scene.

Scott’s wife, Donna Hartman, shared how much he was loved. “He has continued to be honored because of the affection people had for him. This celebration with so many is a comfort to me,” she said.

The tribute also supported a worthy cause. All proceeds went to the ALS Clinic Endowment Fund at the University of Cincinnati’s Gardner Neuroscience Institute. Scott battled ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, before he passed at age 81.

Jim Scott was a staple in Cincinnati radio for over five decades. He arrived in the city in 1968 and quickly became the morning voice playing popular music on 1360 WSAI. He ended his on-air career in 2015 but left a lasting legacy.

In addition to his radio career, Scott was deeply involved in the community. He served as Grand Marshall for Cincinnati’s Opening Day Parade for 50 years. Recently, the city honored him by naming the intersection of Liberty and Race Streets, where the parade starts, as Jim Scott Way.

Lawrenceburg High School also paid tribute by dedicating their new broadcasting studios to him in August. Known for his tireless volunteer work, Scott supported causes like the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign and the March of Dimes, helping to raise millions for children in need.

According to local news anchor Brian Combs, Scott’s spirit of giving stemmed from his own childhood. “He had polio as a child, and that made him passionate about helping others,” Combs explained.

Former sports anchor Dennis Janson highlighted Scott’s uplifting nature. “Jim saw the good in everyone. He was encouraging and genuinely kind. He opened doors for many,” Janson said.

As his legacy lives on, Jim Scott remains a cherished figure in Cincinnati, not just for his contributions to radio but also for the love and kindness he spread throughout the community.
