John Ojeisekhoba Sr., a respected leader in campus safety and Associate VP at Biola University, has sadly passed away at 54 due to cardiac arrest. His sudden loss has left a significant impact on the university and the wider community.
Just before his passing, Ojeisekhoba was named president of the California College and University Police Chiefs Association (CCUPCA). This role reflected his 25 years of dedication to campus safety, benefiting institutions across California. CCUPCA aims to standardize safety policies and practices among colleges and universities in the state.
Ojeisekhoba’s leadership extended beyond California. He previously served as president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). His influence in the field is undeniable, showcasing his commitment to improving campus safety both locally and nationally.
Joining Biola University as a Campus Safety officer in 2000, Ojeisekhoba’s career evolved quickly. He played on the university’s track and field team and earned two master’s degrees—one in intercultural studies and another in organizational leadership. In 2009, he became Chief of Campus Safety, and by 2019, he advanced to his final role as Associate Vice President.
Biola’s president, Barry H. Corey, expressed profound respect for Ojeisekhoba. He noted that Ojeisekhoba was recognized not just for his professionalism in safety but also for embodying the values of the university community.
His contributions to campus safety were recognized by many organizations. In 2015, Campus Safety Magazine named him “Campus Safety Director of the Year.” He also gained recognition from the Department of Homeland Security in 2025 and received several other awards, highlighting his commitment to law enforcement and community service.
Ojeisekhoba’s journey began in Nigeria, where he grew up in a large family led by a police chief father. He moved to the U.S. in 1996 to pursue education and athletics. He was more than just an administrator; he taught self-defense classes at Biola and served as a reserve officer with the Garden Grove Police Department, sharing his knowledge widely with universities and organizations nationwide.
In light of his passing, Randy Chung, the current assistant chief of Campus Safety, will step in as interim chief. The university plans to honor Ojeisekhoba by lowering flags and will share details about memorial services soon.
Ojeisekhoba leaves behind his wife and five children. The family has requested donations to a memorial fund in his honor, emphasizing their desire for meaningful remembrance over flowers.
