Loni Anderson, known for her role as the savvy receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on the sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” passed away just before her 80th birthday. A few days ago, she died in a Los Angeles hospital after battling a long illness.
Her family shared their sorrow, stating, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother.” Anderson’s portrayal of Jennifer, who juggled her boss’s chaotic calls with grace, won her two Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nods.
“WKRPat” aired from 1978 to 1982, showcasing a struggling radio station trying to survive with rock music. The show featured a talented cast, including Gary Sandy and Tim Reid, and became a cultural touchstone of its era.
Beyond her role on television, Anderson starred in the 1983 comedy “Stroker Ace” with Burt Reynolds, whom she later married. Their relationship was often scrutinized by the media, but Anderson noted that their son, Quinton, was the highlight of their life together. “He was the best decision we ever made,” she remarked during a memorial for Reynolds.
In her 1995 autobiography, “My Life in High Heels,” she opened up about her tumultuous relationships, emphasizing the importance of honesty in storytelling. She said, “If you’re going to write about yourself, you have to do it warts and all.”
Born on August 5, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Loni’s acting journey began with a minor role alongside Steve McQueen in the 1966 film “Nevada Smith.” She gradually built her career with guest appearances on popular shows like “S.W.A.T.” and “Police Woman.”
In 2023, she appeared in “Ladies Of The 80s: A Divas Christmas,” alongside stars like Linda Gray and Morgan Fairchild. Fellow actress Fairchild expressed her grief over Anderson’s death, calling her “the sweetest, most gracious lady.”
Loni Anderson leaves behind her husband Bob Flick, daughter Deidra, son Quentin, and several grandchildren. A private family service is set for the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
