In the world of Puppetland, she was a shining star. Lynne Marie Stewart, best known for her role as Miss Yvonne on “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” has passed away at 78. Friends and fans are sharing their sadness on social media, celebrating her vibrant spirit.

Cassandra Peterson, also known as Elvira, and former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Laraine Newman remembered Lynne as a kind and talented actress. In heartfelt messages, they called her a TV icon and an important part of the Groundlings, a comedy troupe in Los Angeles.

Cassandra said, “My heart is breaking upon hearing the news of my dear friend Lynne Stewart’s passing. She was one of the sweetest and funniest women.” Meanwhile, Laraine commented, “The most beautiful girl in Puppetland has left us,” highlighting the joy Lynne brought to their lives.

Lynne grew up in Los Angeles and became close friends with Paul Reubens, the man behind Pee-wee Herman, when they joined the Groundlings in the 1970s. They shared the stage together in the original “Pee-wee Herman Show” in 1981. Lynne’s Miss Yvonne, with her memorable dresses and charming smile, won the hearts of many, especially during the CBS show that aired from 1986 to 1990.

In this show, Miss Yvonne had a playful romantic relationship with Captain Carl, played by Phil Hartman, who was another Groundlings member. The show was known for its silly humor and imaginative storytelling, engaging young audiences at the time.

Lynne also appeared in Tim Burton’s film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” and its sequel “Big Top Pee-wee.” Though she didn’t reprise her iconic role in the movies, she appeared as Mother Superior and a bearded lady in the respective films. Later, she returned to the stage with Paul during a revival of the beloved character in 2010, and was part of the Netflix production “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday” in 2016.

In addition to her work on “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” Lynne appeared on many popular TV shows. She played Bonnie Kelly, the loving mother of Charlie Kelly on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Her character first appeared in 2005 and made her last appearance in 2023.

Early in her career, Lynne showcased her acting skills in various other series including “M*A*S*H,” “Night Court,” “Laverne & Shirley,” and “The Golden Girls.” She also made her mark in films like “American Graffiti” and “Bridesmaids.”

Throughout her life, Lynne’s spark and humor left a significant impact on her friends and the entertainment world. She was more than just Miss Yvonne; she was a cherished figure who brought joy to many. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of fans and fellow actors alike.
