Remembering Patrick Muldoon: Celebrated Actor from ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Starship Troopers’ Passes Away

Patrick Muldoon, an actor and producer best known for his work on Days of Our Lives, Melrose Place, and Starship Troopers, tragically passed away today, April 19, from a heart attack. He was only 57 years old.

Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon went to the University of Southern California, where he played football. He kicked off his acting career while still in college, appearing in the sitcom Who’s the Boss?. Shortly after graduating in 1991, he secured a role on Saved By the Bell.

Muldoon became famous for his role as Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, which he portrayed from 1992 to 1995 and then again from 2011 to 2012. He also played the villainous Richard Hart on Melrose Place and starred in several TV movies throughout the late ’90s and early 2000s.

On the film front, Muldoon was memorable as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 sci-fi classic Starship Troopers, directed by Paul Verhoeven. His upcoming crime thriller Dirty Hands is set to be released later this year.

Beyond his acting, Muldoon was an executive producer on notable films such as The Tribes of Palos Verdes and The Card Counter. His latest project, Kockroach, features stars like Chris Hemsworth and Taron Egerton, and is currently in production.

Music was another passion for Muldoon. He often entertained friends with his guitar and sang lead for a band called The Sleeping Masses.

Those who knew him described him as generous and warm-hearted. Friends noted he had a unique ability to make others feel valued and safe, often described as stylish and charismatic. He embraced life with a rock ’n’ roll spirit.

Muldoon, affectionately known as “Bobo” by loved ones, leaves behind his partner Miriam Rothbart, his parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr., his sister Shana, and her husband Ahmet Zappa, along with his beloved niece Halo and nephew Arrow Zappa.

In 2023, heart disease remains a significant issue, affecting countless families. According to the American Heart Association, about 697,000 Americans die from heart disease each year. This highlights the importance of heart health awareness and regular check-ups.
