Kirkland’s final days were challenging. She was in hospice care at a hospital in Palm Springs, battling dementia for the past year. Recently, she suffered serious injuries from a fall in the shower, which complicated her health further.
Born in New York City to a Vogue fashion editor and a metals dealer, Kirkland pursued acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She first garnered attention as one of Andy Warhol’s “13 Most Beautiful Women” back in 1964 and made waves when she became the first actress to perform completely nude on stage in an off-Broadway play called “Sweet Eros.”
Nearly two decades later, she achieved critical acclaim for her role in the 1987 film “Anna,” earning a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her performance. Throughout her career, she had over 200 credits, appearing in popular works like “Charlie’s Angels,” “JFK,” and “Bruce Almighty.”
Beyond acting, Kirkland was an ordained minister and a yoga enthusiast. She was also a mentor to many aspiring actors, including notable stars like Barbra Streisand, Sandra Bullock, and Liza Minelli.
