Wings Hauser, the versatile actor famed for his roles in films and television, passed away on March 15 in Los Angeles at the age of 78. His wife, Cali Lili Hauser, announced that he died of natural causes.
In her heartfelt tribute, Cali described Wings as a movie icon whose career spanned 58 years. She highlighted their deep connection, stating that they spent countless hours together creating music and working on upcoming projects.
Born Gerald Dwight Hauser in Hollywood, he began his acting career with a small role in the 1967 film “First to Fight.” Over the years, he appeared in many popular TV series, including “Magnum, P.I.,” “Murder, She Wrote,” and “Beverly Hills 90210.” His talent earned him a recurring role in the soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” where he played Greg Foster starting in 1977.
Wings is perhaps best remembered for his gripping performance as Ramrod in the 1982 film “Vice Squad” and for playing a tobacco lawyer in the acclaimed movie “The Insider” alongside stars Al Pacino and Russell Crowe. Throughout his career, he also featured in indie films like “Rubber” and “Tough Guys Don’t Dance,” the latter earning him a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award.
Wings’ love for creativity didn’t end with acting. He and Cali were partners in both life and art. She spoke of their collaborative spirit, mentioning projects like their award-winning release “Eve N’ God; This Female Is Not Yet Rated.” Even after his passing, Cali vowed to continue their shared vision and complete the projects they had started together.
Wings came from a notable family; his father, Dwight Hauser, was a writer who faced blacklisting during the Communist era and contributed to “The Magical World of Disney.” Wings’ son, Cole Hauser, currently stars in the popular series “Yellowstone,” continuing the family’s legacy in the entertainment industry.
With his passing, the film and music worlds mourn the loss of a beloved figure. Wings Hauser’s contributions will not be forgotten, and his impact will likely inspire future generations of artists.
