Ren-Gas Partners with MAN Energy Solutions to Revolutionize E-Methane Production in Tampere

MAN Energy Solutions in Augsburg, Germany, is set to supply a 50 MW methanation reactor for the Ren-Gas e-methane plant in Tampere, Finland. This reactor will be designed and built in Deggendorf, Germany.

Ren-Gas, a top developer of green hydrogen and e-methane projects in Finland, has chosen MAN Energy Solutions as a key partner for its Tampere Power-to-Gas project. The reactor will transform green hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ into renewable e-methane.

MAN Energy Solutions will manage everything from design and manufacturing to installation and performance testing. This comprehensive approach ensures that the project benefits from their expertise at every step, ensuring efficiency and quality.

Mikko Piekkala, Ren-Gas’s Commercial Manager, expressed excitement about collaborating with MAN Energy Solutions. He noted that their advanced methanation technology will significantly improve methane production efficiency. Partnering with a leader like MAN Energy Solutions strengthens their efforts in the evolving European hydrogen sector.

Christian Obermeier, Sales Manager at MAN Energy Solutions, shared pride in this partnership. He highlighted their long experience in the Power-to-Gas field, having launched their first methanation reactor in 2013. This wealth of experience will enhance the new reactor’s design, ensuring high efficiency and top-quality methane.

Ren-Gas’s Tampere plant is targeted at producing renewable e-methane for heavy-duty transport. The reactor will utilize around 40,000 tons of CO₂ captured annually from a waste incineration plant, along with green hydrogen generated through electrolysis. This facility is projected to generate about 200 GWh of renewable fuel and provide 180 GWh of carbon-free district heating for Tampere.

Ren-Gas has received substantial backing from the Finnish government and the EU for its projects. Construction of the Tampere facility will kick off in 2025, with plans to start commercial operations by 2027.
