Rep. Lauren Boebert Champions House Vote for Epstein Files Release: What You Need to Know

Boebert’s Push for Epstein Files

Despite pressure from the Trump Administration, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert is pushing forward with a discharge petition to release files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Boebert met with officials at the White House where she discussed her commitment to transparency.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed the meeting, stating it was about ensuring transparency for Congress. “When the administration engages with lawmakers, it shows we’re open to addressing their concerns,” she pointed out.

Boebert, however, emphasized she felt no pressure to withdraw from the petition. “I appreciate having conversations,” she said, expressing her desire to honor President Trump’s commitment to transparency. She believes the administration is dedicated to being open and forthright.

Boebert is one of four Republicans backing the bipartisan effort, which includes Reps. Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna. On September 2, she and her colleagues signed the petition, which only recently gained enough support after Democratic Rep. Adelita Grijalva joined in.

The petition requires 218 signatures to move forward, and once reached, no additional names can be added or removed. Earlier in the day, Trump urged Republicans to resist supporting the petition, claiming it was a distraction from the party’s goals.

These discussions occur against a backdrop of rising public interest in government transparency. A recent survey found that 75% of Americans believe the government needs to do more to be open and accountable.

Speaker Mike Johnson stated he plans to bring the bill to a vote next week. If approved by the House, it would then go to the Senate, where its future remains uncertain. Should it reach the President’s desk, Trump has previously labeled the measure a “hoax.”

This effort reflects a growing movement within Congress to hold powerful figures accountable. The call for transparency surrounding Epstein, who had connections to influential figures, resonates with many. As awareness increases, public pressure on lawmakers to act is likely to grow.
