On January 26, 2025, India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with colorful parades and rich cultural displays. This year marked a significant milestone, as it was also the 75th anniversary of the Constitution coming into effect. The main celebrations took place at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu led the festivities.

The day started with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying tribute at the National War Memorial. He was joined by various dignitaries, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who was the chief guest this year. Over 10,000 special guests were invited to witness the parade, a grand event celebrating India’s diversity and military strength through different tableaux and marching groups.

Highlights included the vibrant performances by cultural artists, who kicked off the parade by playing the song “Sare Jahan Se Achha.” The impressive march past featured various armed forces, including contingents from Indonesia, showcasing a spirit of international camaraderie. Interestingly, this year saw bands from three government schools, including two all-girl teams, perform as part of the celebrations.

The parade displayed 16 tableaux from different states and union territories, each reflecting the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas.” They illustrated India’s cultural heritage, achievements, and aspirations. An exciting moment was the fly-past that followed, featuring 40 aircraft and helicopters showcasing advanced formations like Rafale and Su-30 jets. This aerial display ended with a dazzling vertical maneuver by a Rafale fighter, leaving spectators in awe.

As part of the celebrations across the country, state leaders also organized events in their capitals. In Kashmir, festivities took place amidst tight security, emphasizing the importance of national unity. Events were held globally by the Indian diaspora, who celebrated the day with pride, demonstrating their commitment to Indian values despite being far from home.

The day ended with the national anthem being played and balloons symbolizing 75 years of the Constitution released into the sky, encapsulating the essence of democracy and freedom that the Republic Day signifies for every Indian. Overall, this year’s Republic Day celebrations were a beautiful blend of tradition, patriotism, and progress, exemplifying the spirit of India.
