Mendoza adds that your vacation spot should mean something to you, whether it’s a favored place or one that offers the hobbies you love. Some folks thrive on being active, while others simply want to unwind.

Not everyone takes vacations due to time, money, or health concerns. However, Mendoza insists that stepping away from work is crucial to prevent burnout. “We often feel too responsible, thinking we should always be available,” he says. “It’s important to remember that taking time off is essential.”

If big trips aren’t feasible, consider staycations. Explore parks, museums, or just catch up on household tasks. Even planning a getaway can lift your spirits. “It doesn’t always mean flying somewhere fancy,” Mendoza notes. “Staying close to home can be just as fulfilling.”

He suggests aiming for at least two vacations a year—one in summer and another in winter. It’s also key to unplug. Set clear boundaries with work before you leave. Avoid checking emails unless it’s an emergency. “It’s hard to enjoy if you’re juggling both,” Mendoza explains.

Lastly, take your time planning. A solid plan prevents last-minute stress, allowing you to truly enjoy your break. Remember, vacations should feel like an escape, not just another task.

In a recent survey by the American Psychological Association, 67% of respondents said vacations improved their overall happiness and contentment. So, whether you’re lounging on a beach or exploring local sights, taking the time to unwind is truly worth it.
