Dr. N.P. Singh is steering the Bharatiya Shiksha Board (BSB) with a bold vision. He aims to blend India’s rich knowledge system with mainstream education. This initiative seeks to revive an education landscape that has suffered for centuries due to outside influences and to restore pride in India’s civilizational history.

Founded on March 9, 2019, BSB gained equivalence with other national and state boards on August 3, 2022. This recognition from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) allows students from BSB to pursue further education without barriers. On February 3, 2023, the Ministry informed state governments about BSB’s national equivalence, facilitating its nationwide operations. The board also receives support from Patanjali in Haridwar.

The idea for BSB emerged from a need for educational reform, a topic that Swami Baba Ramdev has championed for over two decades. He and many educators felt the impact of a dated colonial education system. The Macaulayan education model, introduced in 1835, aimed to reshape Indian minds to align with Western ideals. This led to a disregard for India’s own rich cultural heritage, causing a brain drain as talented individuals sought opportunities abroad.

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of integrating indigenous knowledge into education. According to a survey by the National Education Policy, over 70% of parents and students favor reforms that prioritize Indian traditions and values (source: Government of India’s National Education Policy). This signals a shift in mindset, with many recognizing the value of maintaining strong cultural roots while engaging with global knowledge.

Social media discussions often highlight public opinion on educational reform. Many young people express a desire to learn about their history and culture, showing a keen interest in courses that reflect India’s identity.

The establishment of BSB represents a significant movement towards reclaiming educational sovereignty. By recognizing the importance of local knowledge, India takes a step closer to fostering a future generation that values its heritage while embracing modern education.
