Happy 50th birthday, BMW 3 Series! To celebrate this milestone, BMW has unveiled a special edition: the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition. This model honors each generation of the 3 Series with unique styling and features.
The M340i xDrive offers exclusive paint and trim options, paying homage to past models. Buyers can choose from five colors inspired by earlier generations, covering everything from the classic E21 to the E90. Each color option is paired with one of three leather interiors—Black, Ivory, or Tartufo—and includes carbon fiber accents throughout the cabin, along with special “50 Jahre Edition” badging.
This edition introduces something new: Extended Merino Leather is now standard. Depending on the exterior color, you also get a matching brake caliper finish in either red or blue. The standard Shadowline Package enhances the look, adding adaptive LED headlights and dark accents. You’ll also find a carbon-fiber trunk spoiler and 19-inch M dual-spoke wheels, rounding out a sporty aesthetic.
Performance stays strong. The M340i features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid engine, generating 386 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. This power can launch the sedan to 60 miles per hour in just 4.1 seconds. It all connects through an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
BMW plans to make a limited number of these editions available. They have not revealed the exact production numbers, but the starting price is $76,375, including destination fees. The M340i 50 Jahre Edition is expected to hit the market early next year.
Historically, the 3 Series has been a favorite among luxury sedan enthusiasts. It has evolved significantly since the E21 debuted in 1975. The ongoing popularity of the 3 Series is reflected in a recent report from J.D. Power, which found that luxury sedans still attract consumers despite a growing interest in SUVs and electric vehicles.
