San Francisco: An innovative heart stent developed in India is garnering significant attention for its impressive performance, especially among high-risk patients. Named Supraflex Cruz, this new-generation stent has demonstrated a lower failure rate when compared to its leading US counterpart, Xience.
During a recent international cardiology conference, Dr. Upendra Kaul, a prominent heart specialist and Dean of Batra Hospital in Delhi, shared findings from the TUXEDO-2 trial. This study involved participants from 66 cardiology centers across India and focused on patients with complex conditions, such as diabetes and advanced multi-vessel disease.
A striking 80% of the trial participants had triple vessel disease, highlighting the serious nature of their health issues. The results were quite promising for the Indian stent. It was found to be non-inferior to the international standard, with a notably lower rate of Target Lesion Failure (TLF). This important metric tracks severe outcomes like cardiac death and the need for re-procedures.
