The fruit industry in Ecuador is taking a big step towards sustainability with a new packaging innovation for bananas.
Mondi, a packaging company, has created a banana box that’s 10% lighter and made from 40% recycled materials. This new design was tested by the exporter Incarpalm during a long 33-day journey to Europe. Remarkably, even with high humidity, the box held up perfectly, showing no signs of damage. Marek Motylewski, a technical expert at Mondi, described the successful test as “incredibly rewarding.”
In recent years, many brands have faced criticism for wasteful packaging, especially with single-use plastics.
