Revolutionizing Aerospace: Merlinhawk-Vega Joint Venture Unveils Cutting-Edge Composites Facility in Tamil Nadu Defence Corridor

Merlinhawk Composites and Engineering Pvt. Ltd., a partnership between India’s Merlinhawk Aerospace and Italy’s Vega Composites, recently celebrated a significant milestone in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu. They held a pooja ceremony to mark the upcoming launch of their advanced composites manufacturing facility.

This new plant is part of the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor. Its goal is to produce high-performance composite materials specifically for aerospace and defense. This facility is expected to boost India’s defense efforts and integrate into global aerospace supply chains. The formal opening is set for mid-April 2026.

According to R. Ramachandra Rao, the Managing Director of Merlinhawk Aerospace, this new plant is a step toward creating world-class aerospace manufacturing in India. He highlighted that the collaboration with Vega Composites brings valuable international expertise to India’s growing manufacturing sector.

“This facility fits perfectly with India’s vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, establishing the country as a leader in high-performance aerospace manufacturing,” Rao said.

Officials added that the facility will adhere to global standards and include state-of-the-art technologies like precision machining and cleanroom environments for top-notch quality.

Commodore (Retd.) Bharat Bhushan Nagpal, CEO of Merlinhawk, emphasized the importance of advanced composite materials in modern aerospace and defense sectors. “Our goal is to create a competitive manufacturing platform that caters to both Indian defense initiatives and global aerospace clients,” he stated.

Not only will the plant produce materials, but it will also focus on skill development in advanced materials engineering, offering specialized training opportunities in the region. This development aligns with recent trends, as there’s been an increase in demand for skilled workers in high-tech manufacturing sectors.

The establishment of this facility marks an important expansion for Merlinhawk, building on its strengths in areas like avionics and integrated aerospace services.
