FloVision Solutions, an AI startup focused on improving yield and quality in protein production, just secured $8.7 million in Series A funding. Insight Partners led this round, with contributions from Serra Ventures, SOSV, and Rockstart.
FloVision’s innovative tools help food processors track yield, monitor quality, and enhance workforce efficiency in real time. Their compact sensors attach to conveyor belts and workstations, scanning each product as it moves along. This technology allows processors to analyze individual items, spotting defects and misgrades instantly. If an issue arises, it sends alerts for quick action on sorting or rejection.
The data collected syncs into a centralized dashboard, helping supervisors spot trends and make informed decisions. Since launching in 2020, FloVision has processed over 23.2 million kilograms (about 51.1 million pounds) of food in leading plants across multiple regions. Clients have seen yield improvements of up to 1.5% and reported returns on investment as high as 15 times by cutting waste and making quicker, data-driven choices.
This new funding will help FloVision expand its reach in North America, Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia. They also plan to grow their team, hiring engineers in software, hardware, and AI/ML, alongside sales representatives, to better serve their expanding customer base.
Rian McDonnell, the founder and CEO of FloVision, shared insights on the funding, saying, “This unlocks a whole new world of food production tech. We’re helping protein processors boost efficiency and tackle real customer problems.” He emphasized their commitment to building tools that support essential industry workers.
Jeff Horing, Co-founder and Managing Director at Insight Partners, highlighted FloVision’s impact, stating, “They’re reshaping how production decisions are made across the industry.”
The demand for efficiency in food production has never been greater. A recent study by the Food and Agriculture Organization revealed that food waste accounts for about one-third of all food produced globally. Innovations like those from FloVision can significantly reduce waste and help address these pressing challenges.
FloVision is not just adding analytics. They’re setting new standards in protein processing by combining computer vision technology with practical solutions, driving the industry forward.
