The seminar, organized by Beijing Normal University and UNESCO, brought together 38 participants from 19 different countries. Attendees included government officials, education planners, and researchers, all focused on how AI is transforming education worldwide.

Over six days, discussions revolved around several key topics. These included the role of digital technology in shaping education, how AI can improve governance in education, and the importance of well-planned educational policies.

The newly launched Lab of AI Governance and Planning will work on integrating AI technology into educational governance and policy-making. The goal is to create educational systems that are inclusive, efficient, and driven by data.

This lab is a collaboration that includes Beijing Normal University, the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning, and other educational institutions like Tsinghua University.

One of the lab’s main focuses will be addressing the lack of digital resources in developing countries, especially in Africa and Small Island Developing States. The aim is to ensure that digital education is available and accessible to everyone, as highlighted by Huang Ronghuai from UNESCO.

The first result from the lab, EduPX, will help in making better decisions in education. It aims to solve challenges like finding policy documents and comparing different policies. By using a vast database of global education policies and data from various sectors, EduPX offers support in multiple languages, helping education planners, research institutions, and international organizations make informed decisions.
