Revolutionizing Rail Travel: India Launches First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train on the Guwahati-Kolkata Route!

India has just wrapped up trials and safety checks for its first Vande Bharat Sleeper train. This is a big leap toward starting long-distance overnight services. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that the first route will link Guwahati and Kolkata, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to launch it soon.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is built for trips longer than 1,000 kilometers. It features modern sleeper coaches, better suspension, and enhanced safety features. Fares on the Guwahati–Howrah route will be around ₹2,300 for AC three-tier. This is much cheaper than flying the same distance. Indian Railways plans to offer higher-tier options, priced at about ₹3,000 for AC two-tier and ₹3,600 for first-class AC.

During trials in Rajasthan, the train hit speeds of up to 180 km/h. It passed various tests, checking braking, stability, and emergency systems. With features like KAVACH automatic train protection, CCTV, and fire safety systems, this sleeper train is a testament to the push for advanced, homegrown technology under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

User reactions on social media have been positive, with many expressing excitement about the enhanced travel options. The demand for comfortable and quick long-distance travel has surged; recent reports show that nearly 75% of long-distance travelers prefer rail over air for cost-effectiveness and comfort.

As we look at the evolution of Indian Railways, it’s interesting to note that this progress comes after decades of modernization efforts. In the past, long-distance travel by train was often slow and uncomfortable. Now, with the Vande Bharat Sleeper, travelers can expect a smoother and more enjoyable journey.

In summary, the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train not only aims to meet rising travel demands but also represents India’s commitment to innovation and improvement in public transport.
