Revolutionizing Refinery: BSNL and NRL Join Forces to Launch India’s First 5G CNPN – Essential Update for Public Sector Innovations

In a significant step for India’s industrial future, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) have teamed up to launch the country’s first 5G Captive Non-Public Network (CNPN) in the refinery sector. This partnership was announced during an “Industry 4.0 Workshop for CPSEs” held in Guwahati, organized by the Ministry of Finance.

The workshop drew several high-profile attendees, including key officials from various Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). They discussed innovative technologies like Digital Twins, IoT, and 3D Printing integrated with AI. The focus was on upgrading India’s industrial capabilities and promoting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

What the MoU Entails

  • This is the first deployment of a 5G CNPN in India’s refinery sector.
  • The network will ensure secure, real-time connectivity for critical operations.
  • It aims to drive digital transformation and create job opportunities, especially in Northeast India.

CMD NRL described this move as a “game changer,” pointing out the advantages it brings in operational security and the incorporation of modern training methods, such as AR/VR applications. A. Robert J. Ravi, CMD of BSNL, emphasized that this partnership aims to build a digitally advanced India and can serve as a model for future infrastructure projects in strategic sectors.

Recent statistics show that 5G technology could add around $1 trillion to the global economy by 2030, highlighting the significance of such initiatives. As the government pushes for a tech-savvy and self-reliant India, this MoU sets a precedent for other industries to follow suit.

The Secretary at the Department of Public Enterprises praised this collaboration, noting its potential to increase productivity and job opportunities in underprivileged regions. This agreement is likely to serve as an example for future projects, reinforcing the idea of a self-reliant and digitally empowered nation.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey toward modernizing its industrial landscape, showcasing a commitment to innovation, security, and regional development.
