DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has made waves by surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the most downloaded free app on the Apple App Store. Now, it’s gaining traction in several sectors within China. The company is teaming up with Geely, an automaker based in Hangzhou, to enhance smart cars with its R1 language model.
Geely plans to improve its Xingrui AI car control system using DeepSeek’s R1. This method involves refining a smaller AI model with insights from a larger one, leading to better performance.
On January 11, Geely introduced its Xingrui model, claiming it as “the world’s first full-stack self-developed full-scenario AI model in the automotive sector.” Xingrui has three essential components: language, multimodal, and digital twin models.
AI and Cloud Computing Enhance Chinese NEV Competitiveness
In China’s automotive world, AI and cloud computing are key to making new energy vehicles (NEVs) stronger and more user-friendly. Geely’s ‘Smart Geely 2025’ plan aims to use advanced AI for features like voice interaction and intelligent driving.
At a recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Pan Jian, a leader at CATL, noted the shift in China’s electric vehicle industry from simple EVs to intelligent electric vehicles (IEVs). He highlighted how the fusion of electric power and smart technology is driving this transition.
Geely isn’t alone in these advancements; Dongfeng, another Chinese carmaker, is also integrating DeepSeek’s AI into its Zeekr and Voyah models. Starting February 14, owners of Voyah’s Zhiyin electric crossovers will receive updates that tap into an ever-expanding AI database, marking it as the first production vehicle to support the latest DeepSeek technology.
Chinese Firms Quickly Adopt DeepSeek AI
Various Chinese companies are rapidly implementing DeepSeek R1 AI across industries like PCs, robotics, and electric cars. This surge follows recent US sanctions, as both nations rival for AI dominance.
Lenovo is among the first to embrace DeepSeek tech, incorporating it into its Xiaotian AI assistant for PCs. Additionally, Lenovo has partnered with Muxi Co Ltd to deliver an ‘all-in-one solution’, combining Lenovo hardware with Muxi GPUs, set to launch on February 5.
In the robotics sector, UBTech is using DeepSeek AI in its humanoid robots, enabling them to understand complex tasks in real-world settings, particularly in factories.
Moreover, the gaming and education industries in China are beginning to adopt DeepSeek R1 technology, with NetEase confirming its integration. Pharmaceutical companies like Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals are also planning to harness this AI technology in their operations.
