Rihanna is back in the spotlight, but this time, it’s for the “Smurfs” movie, where she voices Smurfette. The first trailer has just dropped, and Rihanna is seen throughout, confirming her leading role.

Produced by Paramount Studios, this new “Smurfs” film introduces these little blue characters to the human world as they face new challenges. Featuring an impressive cast, the movie has John Goodman, Nick Offerman, Octavia Spencer, and many more joining in.
Animation legends Chris Miller and Matt Landon direct this film, which isn’t a sequel to the previous Smurfs movies featuring Katy Perry and Demi Lovato. Rihanna had earlier joked about wanting the role of Papa Smurf during CinemaCon. Besides voicing Smurfette, she is also one of the film’s producers and has written original songs for it.
The trailer offers a sneak peek of her singing “Please Don’t Stop the Music” and a cover of Belinda Carlisle’s classic “Heaven Is A Place on Earth.” If you’re interested, you can watch the full trailer online.
What about new music?
Rihanna hasn’t released a full album since “Anti” in 2016. Since then, she has released some singles, including tracks for the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack. While she’s teased new music in interviews, fans are still waiting for solid news about another album.
Last June, she expressed her desire to revisit older songs with a fresh perspective before fully diving back into the studio. “I want to go back and listen to stuff with my new ears and see what applies and what I still love,” she shared. “Give me a second!”
