New Delhi: Fans felt a wave of relief as Rishabh Pant, India’s talented wicketkeeper-batter, arrived at practice without any knee strapping. This happened on the second day of training at the ICC Academy. Pant had taken a hit to his left knee the previous day during drills when Hardik Pandya’s shot struck him while he was near the nets.
On Monday, Pant walked over to a group of excited fans shouting his name. “Pant! Pant! Autograph, please!” they cheered. He happily obliged, signing autographs and taking selfies with them.
As he started his practice session, Pant chose to be cautious and skipped the fielding drills. While his teammates caught high balls, he practiced shadow batting. Although he arrived without a knee brace, he decided to wear one before starting his training.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir looked thrilled to see Pant back on the field, signaling good vibes for the team.
India’s Champions Trophy journey kicks off on February 20, 2025, against Bangladesh, following by a highly awaited match against Pakistan on February 23. They will also face New Zealand in their final Group A match on March 2.
India has a proud history in the Champions Trophy, having won the tournament twice. Their first title came in 2002, under Sourav Ganguly, when they shared the championship with Sri Lanka due to rain. The second victory was in 2013, led by MS Dhoni, when India triumphed over England.
