PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – This semester, students at UW-Platteville can explore a new and exciting field: cannabis education. The university is offering online certificate programs that cover various aspects of the cannabis industry.
In collaboration with Green Flower, a well-known provider of cannabis courses, UW-Platteville offers a variety of classes. Topics include the business side of cannabis, its medicinal uses, and agricultural techniques for growing the plant, even if only for educational purposes.
Max Simon, CEO of Green Flower, notes that many people are unaware of the career opportunities within the cannabis sector. “Cannabis carries a stigma, and it’s a new industry. Many don’t understand the roles available,” he explains. “But for those interested, there are plenty of ways to get involved now.” Although cannabis cultivation is illegal in Wisconsin, students can practice with hemp or related plants.
Simon emphasizes the importance of education in this evolving field. “Being informed will help you seize opportunities as the industry grows,” he says. The interest in cannabis programs is rising, reflecting a broader acceptance of the industry across the country, including the 60 schools that partner with Green Flower.
As cannabis legalization progresses in many areas, Simon believes it’s time to take this field seriously. However, despite efforts from leaders like Gov. Tony Evers, legalization in Wisconsin has not yet happened.
Overall, courses like these could prepare students for rewarding careers in an industry that is on the rise.
