Rising Stars: Brandeis University Newcomers Shine in Cross Country at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Brandeis University cross country teams were back in action at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational after a three-week break. The women’s team placed 12th overall and took third in the Division III category, while the men finished 19th overall, ranking seventh among D3 teams.

Women’s Highlights

Leading the women was graduate student Shae Regan from Littleton, MA. She clocked in at 22:36.82 for the 6K course, finishing 37th overall and eighth among D3 runners. Senior captain Katriona Briggs had a standout race, finishing 83rd overall in 23:29.23—her first time breaking 24 minutes for the distance. This improvement reflects her hard training and dedication.

Briggs led a tight group of runners, with just seconds separating them. Sadie Harrow, a junior, came in 87th overall, while first-year runner Mikaela Beeler followed closely behind in 92nd place. Both showed impressive potential for their future races. Ella Warkentine, another senior, rounded out the top five in 96th place.

Other notable finishes included first-year Melissa Keenan in 108th, junior Shayna Zavell in 140th, and senior Calli Morvay in 161st.

Men’s Highlights

On the men’s side, first-year runner Ben Weiner had an impressive debut in the 8K race, finishing in 79th place with a time of 26:24.96. Following him was junior Hugh Licklider, who broke his personal record, finishing just eight seconds later.

Ben Katsev, a sophomore, continued to improve by taking 25 seconds off his personal best, finishing in 118th place. Classmate Parker Cook was just four seconds shy of his personal best, while James Waters and Aidan Shames completed the lineup.
