DHAKA, Oct 5, 2025 (BSS) – Today, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an adviser for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, highlighted Bangladesh’s looming climate challenges in a meeting with Nordic Ambassadors from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
She called for increased adaptation support and emphasized the urgency of the Loss and Damage Fund, which aims to help communities affected by climate change. Hasan pointed out that while transitioning to sustainable practices is important, the immediate need is to secure funding to aid vulnerable populations through effective adaptation strategies.
Highlighting the water crisis in coastal regions due to salinity, she suggested community-based rainwater harvesting. This method could provide safe drinking water for many during dry spells. She urged development partners to support such practical and scalable climate resilience initiatives.
The Nordic representatives acknowledged Bangladesh’s proactive stance and committed to working together on renewable energy and adaptation financing. They agreed on the necessity for deeper bilateral discussions to elevate the voices of nations most affected by climate change.
Hasan expressed hope that upcoming climate negotiations would yield significant advancements in adaptation finance and community-led resilience measures. She stressed the need for people-centered investments, warning that financial decisions made without public input could harm both communities and the environment.
In a recent conference, she reiterated the importance of investments that protect nature and consider the voices of local people, stating that such investments bolster long-term resilience.
Recent studies show that developing countries, including Bangladesh, face increasing climate risks, with the global economy losing about $390 billion annually due to climate-related disasters. This emphasizes the vital need for targeted financial support and innovative solutions to climate challenges.
With climate vulnerabilities on the rise, Hasan’s call to action resonates not just in Bangladesh but globally, as nations unite to safeguard our planet’s future.
