Rizwana Urges Global Financial and Technical Support for Achieving Climate Justice

Rizwana Hasan Highlights Need for Climate Justice Support

Today, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an adviser on Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, spoke at a workshop in Dhaka focused on the upcoming COP-30 climate conference. Rizwana emphasized that both technical and financial support are crucial for achieving climate justice.

She suggested forming a collaborative group with neighboring countries like Bhutan and Nepal. This partnership could improve regional cooperation in climate talks. She believes that sharing information and launching joint initiatives can lead to more effective climate diplomacy.

Rizwana also pointed out the ongoing discussions about the global climate fund of USD 100 billion. Despite years of talks, there’s a noticeable gap in how funds are being used.

“Bangladesh has gained valuable insights over the years, but our efforts must be more coordinated,” she stressed. She called for action beyond protests, emphasizing the importance of a strategic approach to climate justice, funding, and workers’ rights.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, with contributions from various climate experts. They all agreed on the need for a stronger position for Bangladesh at COP-30.

Earlier, Rizwana attended a roundtable discussing the sustainability of the steel industry, where she underlined the importance of environmentally friendly construction.

In a meeting later in the day, she talked with Dr. Valantine Achncho from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) about sustainable practices in agriculture.

This growing focus on climate justice comes at a critical time. A recent survey shows that 78% of people in Bangladesh believe climate change should be prioritized in government policies. As climate impacts become more severe, the call for actionable strategies becomes even more urgent.
