Robinson’s Spectacular Home Run Secures Victory for A&T at the Blues Invitational!

A Thrilling Weekend for North Carolina A&T Softball

North Carolina A&T made a big impression at the Blues Invitational hosted by the University of Memphis. They secured an exciting 11-10 victory over Morehead State on Sunday, thanks to a game-winning home run from sophomore Tyra Robinson in the sixth inning. The Aggies wrapped up the tournament with a 3-2 record, including a win against the Memphis Tigers. Overall, they stand at 7-9 after their last non-conference tournament.

On Sunday, A&T recorded a remarkable 13 hits and scored 11 runs. Five players had multiple hits, with Robinson leading the charge. She not only homered but also singled and scored three times. Junior Jamari Moss shone as well, hitting a double and a home run—her fifth of the season—making her the top power hitter in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).

The Aggies kicked off the game with a four-run first inning. After a single from sophomore Aniya Merritt, junior Bria Finley hit an RBI triple to start the scoring. Moss then launched a two-run homer, extending the lead to 3-0. A walk to Robinson and a subsequent RBI double from sophomore Ayanna Mears capped off the first inning.

Morehead State fought back in the second inning, scoring four runs, which tied the game. Junior Devion Long stepped in to replace A&T’s pitcher, Lauren Hardy.

The action picked up in the third inning when A&T answered back with a six-run explosion, taking the lead to 10-4. Moss contributed with a double that started the rally, followed by more hits and a wild pitch that kept the momentum going.

However, Morehead State didn’t give up easily. They scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, tying the game at 10-10. Just when it seemed like the game might end without a definitive winner, Robinson hit her game-winning home run in the sixth.

Remarkably, Robinson’s home run was her fourth of the season. Junior Aaliyah Williams, who came on to pitch in the fifth, sealed the game by getting the final batters out, including a critical strikeout.

In addition to Robinson’s strong performance, Glover, Merritt, and Mears also made significant contributions. Glover went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Mears finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

This game illustrates the resilience of A&T’s team. As they prepare for their next challenge against Presbyterian College, they carry the momentum from this thrilling weekend, which showcases their skill and determination. In sports, every match can tell a new story, and for A&T, this tournament was a testament to their spirit.
