Slippery Rock Women’s Soccer Soars with 2-0 Win Over IUP
The Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team secured a strong victory against Indiana University (Pa.) with a score of 2-0. This win keeps their perfect streak in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division alive, improving their overall record to 4-2-0 and 4-0-0 in the conference.
IUP came into this match with an impressive undefeated record, averaging 4.33 goals per game while allowing only one goal all season. Slippery Rock, on the other hand, had shown solid defense, conceding just two goals in their previous four games.
Freshman Abby Paterline opened the scoring for The Rock in the 16th minute, netting her third goal of the season with an assist from Sophia Palermo. Just five minutes later, Lilia Battalini scored her second goal of the season, also assisted by Palermo. These quick strikes set the tone for the match.
Palermo’s performance was standout, as she recorded two assists, bringing her season total to three. This makes her the leading playmaker for Slippery Rock, with Paterline and Bailey McGee right behind her with two assists each.
Despite IUP outshooting The Rock 10-8 overall, Slippery Rock had the upper hand in shots on goal, leading 6-4. The strong defense, led by goalkeeper Leah Allman, was crucial in shutting out IUP. This victory marked Allman’s 16th career shutout, tying her for sixth place all-time in career wins at Slippery Rock.
As Slippery Rock moves forward, they will face Gannon University, another unbeaten team in the PSAC West, on October 1st. This matchup promises to be a thrilling contest between two top teams.
