After a tough Game 7 loss to the Golden State Warriors, Jalen Green shared a heartfelt moment with Amen Thompson, expressing his support. This marked the end of the Houston Rockets’ first playoff appearance in five years. Coach Ime Udoka and general manager Rafael Stone reflected on the team’s journey, emphasizing the progress they made throughout the season.

Udoka noted, “We’ve become more consistent. While we’re not satisfied with how it ended, there’s a lot to learn from this experience.” His main message was clear: the team has to come back stronger. With exciting young talent like Green, first-time All-Star Alperen Sengun, and Thompson, the Rockets are in a unique position. They have nine first-round picks over the next seven years and a young roster ready to grow.

Stone highlighted the support from team owner Tilman Fertitta. He said Fertitta values the players not just for their skills but for who they are. “The goal is to build a championship team,” Stone stated. Despite the loss this year, the team is on the right track, rising from 22 wins to 52 over two seasons.

The Rockets have choices ahead: they could trade for a veteran star or keep developing their young players. There’s a need for improvement, particularly in scoring efficiency. Green, for instance, averaged just 8 points during the playoff series, while Thompson and forward Tari Eason could enhance their shooting skills.

Veteran point guard Fred VanVleet praised the growth of younger players, saying, “They matured a lot this season.” As for team strategy, continuity is high on the priority list. There’s talk of keeping key players like VanVleet and pursuing growth through extensions for Eason and Jabari Smith Jr., who have shown promise.

Despite the disappointments, the playoffs were a valuable learning experience for Houston. Udoka expressed confidence that the lessons learned from competing against a seasoned team like Golden State will pay off in future seasons. “Next time, we’re not taking a step back,” he asserted.

For Green, this playoff run was a wake-up call. He scored a career-best 35.4% from three-point range during the regular season but knows he has to elevate his game further. “We have to learn, improve, and return better next season,” he remarked.
